5 Common Appliance Repairs

Looking for home appliance repairs? Whether you are a homeowner or a property manager, it’s vital to have access to a reputable appliance repair company. With the high cost of replacing household appliances, it’s always best to tackle problems early on instead of letting them go. Here are five common household issues that an authorized appliance repair company can help you with.

Washing Machine Door Is Locked

If you have a newer washing machine, then you’ve probably noticed that it locks into place when the wash cycle begins. However, what happens if the lock stays on and you can’t get it open? The most likely reason for this occurring is that the door assembly is jammed and needs the attention of your helpful appliance repair technician. They can get the door open without damaging any part of your washer. Sometimes, the issue is more complex and the electronic control board will need to be replaced.

Washing Machine Is Leaking

No one wants to see leaking from any of their appliances. If you notice a stream of water coming from your washer, it might be because the hose isn’t attached correctly, or the hose washer is worn. Another problem could be that the drains became clogged. An appliance repair technician can diagnose this problem and find a solution.

Dishwasher Is Not Cleaning Dishes

You expect your dishwasher to clean your dishes, but every so often, you might notice it’s not doing its job. When this occurs, there’s a good chance the filter needs to be dissembled and cleaned out. It’s a nasty job that your appliance technician can manage for you.

Refrigerator Is Not Getting Cold

When the refrigerator begins to malfunction, then you know it’s a serious problem. You need to have your refrigerator working at its best or your food will spoil. Usually, the culprit in this situation is the condenser coils or the condenser fan motor. This fridge repair in Darwin can be resolved with an appliance pro’s assistance.

Oven Won’t Heat Up

When your oven won’t heat, the problem all depends on what type of oven you have. If you own a gas oven, then it’s likely the igniter that is at fault. If you own an electric oven, the heating element is probably the cause of your issues. Either way, you’ll need the help of trusted professionals to safely get it up and running.

St. Louis Foundation Repairs and Basement Repair

Foundation Repairs St. Louis, MOAs the name suggests, the foundation of your home is the very thing that supports your home. Having a sound foundation is, well, the very foundation of a safe and healthy home. But like all parts of your home, your foundation needs maintenance and even repairs in order for it to continue doing its job properly. So why is your foundation so important?

St. Louis averages 42 inches of rainfall per year, and one of the enemies of foundation health is water. Water is one of the greatest forces of nature, and it can damage and erode your foundation, leading to repairs being needed. As your home ages, it settles, meaning that it is shifting in the earth around it. Rainfall can accelerate this shifting, or can lead to there being an increased pressure on your foundation itself. As your foundation shifts, small cracks may appear. However small these cracks may seem however, they need to be assessed and likely repaired.

When problems in your foundation go unchecked, it can lead to all sorts of damage, but one of the most common is flooding. As rain falls or snow melts, it seeps into the ground around your foundation. However, if your foundation has damage to it, that water can more easily enter your basement repair. Even if you don’t notice a large pool of water, small amounts can cause damage too. Water in your basement can lead to mold and mildew issues, potentially going unnoticed if they are happening behind finished walls, and can even lead to severe respiratory distress. Major flooding can damage vital home systems such as your HVAC system and water heater, meaning you have to pay to have those replaced on top of any other damage the flooding may have caused. The moral of the story is that if you notice cracks in your foundation, it is time to have them checked and repaired.

Foundation repair costs a lot less than foundation overhauls, and the sooner you have the issues repaired, the less likely they are to cause other major issues. The truth is that foundation problems aren’t going to go away on their own, and they will likely only get worse as time goes on if left without the proper repairs. Often foundation repairs are as simple as needing polyurethane injected into a crack or space to keep water out, and will not set you back thousands of dollars. However, by waiting on fixing the issue, the problems will only start to compound.

If foundations are left without repairs, your entire home may begin to suffer. There are several signs that your foundation has damage that has been left for too long: sloped or sagging walls, cracks in exterior sheetrock or bricks, door jams that are no longer square, or even decaying materials in the home. These can all mean that your foundation is in need of some serious care. So rather than wait until these problems occur, catch the symptoms early, and have cracks inspected. The repairs are not going to get less expensive with time, and may lead to irreparable damage. With your foundation, it is better to be safe than sorry. Unless you know you just need Houston concrete leveling, make sure you get your foundation repaired.

Why is my dishwasher not draining?

By: Diamond Factory Appliance of St. Louis

Unless you love washing dishes by hand, your home’s dishwasher is probably one of your most used and appreciated appliances. Unfortunately, they are prone to occasional issues that may require help from an expert in dishwasher repair.

The two most common problems we see with dishwashers are:

  • They do not get dishes completely clean and…
  • Water pools either in the bottom of the dishwasher unit or leaks out onto the floor around the unit.

If either of these are a problem, then appliance repairs in St. Louis, may be in order.

Luckily, you’ve got one of the most relied-upon and experienced dishwasher repair specialists right in your region: Diamond Appliance! For more than 100 years, Diamond has served customers in the St Louis area with top-quality, great value service on dishwashers and most other household appliances.

Read on to learn more about why your dishwasher isn’t draining properly, and how we at Diamond fix this common issue.

Common causes of dishwasher drainage issues

While newer model dishwashers have functionality that makes them automatically stop the cycle if they aren’t draining properly, many older models will continue running while water collects at the bottom of the unit. You may also notice water leaking out from the bottom of the unit and collecting on the floor. Neither of these situations is good, but why do they happen in the first place?

Here are a couple of potential reasons that your home appliance isn’t working right:

  • Clogged or grimy filters. At the bottom of the unit close to the sump are (usually) two layers of filters, which catch food particles before they can make their way into the sump. The first layer catches small particles while the second layer collects larger debris. Filtering is an important step to prevent the sump from clogging and being unable to move the water through the drainage hose. These filters can get dirty and greasy, making it harder for water to flow through them and causing a backup. Usually, the filters just need a good cleaning, but sometimes they need to be replaced.

  • Food or debris in the sump. Sometimes the filters don’t catch 100% of the food particles that come at them, meaning this stuff ends up in the sump. This can mean the sump can’t move water easily out through the drain pipe or that the impeller, a mechanism that turns within the sump to drive out water, becomes blocked. To fix this, as an appliance repair Covington, we simply remove the blockage and make sure all entrances and exits to the sump are clean and clear.

  • A blocked drain hose. When food or other particulate matter ends up in the sump, it can easily make its way into the drain pump. One big culprit for blocking the drain pump is fat or grease that went through the filter as a liquid but later solidified. This can cause a buildup over time and eventually block any water from draining out of the system. To fix a blocked drain pump, we remove the front bottom panel of the unit to access the drainage hose, disconnect it, and either remove the blockage manually or snake it.

  • Debris buildup in the air gap. Many models of dishwasher have what’s called an air gap on top of the sink, which connects to the drain pipe to prevent backflow. This air gap can get clogged and gunky over time, and this is actually an easy DIY fix! Simply remove the cover of the air gap and use a cloth or pipe cleaners to remove any gunk. For more serious air gap blockages, an air compressor can come in handy.

  • A jammed or blocked float assembly. The float assembly is located at the bottom of the dishwasher and basically manages the filling and draining of water within the unit. Debris can block the float assembly, causing it to malfunction and prevent the dishwasher from draining. To fix this issue, we remove the cap of the float assembly and test its functionality. If it is not working, we clean out debris until it can move all the way up and down. Sometimes, this piece needs to be replaced.
